Road Safety Programmes

The Research Institute has been in the vanguard for educating and promoting road safety measures in the district of Ernakulam since 2002. Considering the increasing trend of road accidents in the state of Kerala especially in Ernakulam, the Institute in association with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Govt. of India and various corporate bodies viz. IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, and CIAL has conducted a number of road safety advocacy programmes.

So far, in association with the MORTH, 176 programmes viz. awareness camps, workshops, training to traffic police, competitions in schools/colleges, mobile exhibitions, street plays, rallies, and printing and distribution of IEC materials were carried out. More than 30,000 participants including students, heavy motor vehicle drivers and other road users actively participated in these programmes. Further, around 80 programmes were conducted in various corporate bodies in the state viz. Bharath Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), and Cochin International Air Port Ltd. (CIAL) for its light/heavy motor vehicle drivers.
